Main Purpose
To provide strategic coordination and research on sectoral organizing and collective bargaining in line with implementing the union key strategic priorities.
Key Performance Areas
(a) To develop and co-ordinate the implementation of the organizing and collective bargaining policies and strategies within a designated sector and produce monthly report to head of department;
(b) To ensure establishment of functional union structures, sub-structures and subcommittees that will help achieve the highest possible standards of service and representation of members in the sector;
(c) To work with the Education Service Centre on the development and delivery of effective education and training of shop stewards within the sector and needs based training;
(d) To work with Policy Development Unit to ensure that all bills and legislation impacting on the sector are discussed, and that the union responds appropriately and timeously;
(e) To establish and maintain working relationships with employers and government departments, Alliance structures and other organizations on issues affecting the interests of members in the sector;
(f) To work with the Researcher – Organising and Collective Bargaining in conducting research relevant to collective bargaining, organizing and policy development in the sector head office
(g) To work with organizers at all levels to ensure that the Organizing Service Centre enhances the political and organisational profile of the union
(h) To keep abreast of all relevant legislation and government policies and regulations in order to advice and capacitate union leadership and structures to respond
(i) To develop and ensure implementation of recruitment strategies and campaigns
(j) To analyze regional and provincial organizers’ reports on a monthly basis and identify areas of intervention in order to provide support and advice provinces and regions
(k) To build capacity of negotiating teams on bargaining, policies and transformation issues
The Person:
Individuals meeting the following criteria are to apply:
- Matric, computer literacy and relevant qualification
- 5 years with Union Background
- Prepared to work flexible hours
- Report writing skills
- Drafting of Agreements
- Organizing
- Communication and application
- Knowledge and interpretation of legislation
- Valid driver’s license
Remuneration:
- Membership of Nehawu Provident Fund
- Medical Aid
- Housing Subsidy subject to completion of the qualifying period
- Membership of the NEHAWU Group Schemes
- 13th Cheque; and
- Salary is based on the Nehawu salary grading system.
