NEHAWU welcomes the decision by the head of the National Prosecuting Authority, {NPA} Advocate Mokotedi Mpshe to drop all charges against President of the African National Congress, Comrade Jacob Zuma and we believe that justice has been done.
The union has been vindicated by the decision because we have always believed that this was a political trial and had no business in the country’s courts, our courts are institutions to prosecute criminals not to persecute innocent people and settle political scores.
NEHAWU has for a long time maintained that this case was nothing more than a plot by some scheming rogue elements to subvert the will of the people by preventing Cde Zuma from leading this country.
This injustice was allowed to continue unabated for far too long and sober minded South Africans who believe in fairness and justice showed resilience by demanding the withdrawal of the charges.
Judge Nicholson in his judgment pointed out that there was political interference in the prosecution of the Cde Zuma and the new evidence presented by NPA shows that some few renegades wanted to choose leaders for the people of South Africa.
We urge all South Africans to respect the decision that has been taken by the NPA and refrain from conducting public trials.
We call on all members of NEHAWU to mobilize and go all out to vote for the ANC to achieve overwhelming victory in the upcoming national general elections.
