NEHAWU Northern Cape Public Service Delivery Campaign Launch

NEHAWU Northern Cape Public Service Delivery Campaign Launch

Thursday August 01, 2024

The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union [NEHAWU] in the Northern Cape will launch its Public Service Delivery Campaign on Friday 02ND August 2024 and hand over a memorandum of demands to the MEC of Health, Mr. Maruping Lekwene.

The public service delivery campaign is anchored on the unions’ ideological outlook and its transformative character. As a union organizing in the public and private sector, we understand our role and responsibility in advancing the National Democratic Revolution as our most direct route to socialism and betterment of humanity. This is a long standing campaign of NEHAWU.

As a province, we will be launching this campaign starting with the Public Health Sector. Amongst the key areas of focus we will be calling for the, filling of all vacant and funded posts, organizational stability and accountability in the Department of Health, infrastructural challenges, inadequate equipment, non-compliance with occupational health and safety act, safety and security of workers and patients, insourcing of all the outsourced services especially catering and security services, Preparation for the implementation of the NHI, absorption of the Community Health Workers, Health facility Assistants and COVID-19 Brigades (EPWP), Expansion of Nurses CPD & the Hendrietta Stockdale Nursing College, improvement of conditions of services and personnel within the Emergency Services and Forensic Pathology Services to better serve the people of the province..

In our view, the above mentioned factors remain a challenge in improving service delivery in the public health sector which caters for 86% of the peoples of the province.

As NEHAWU, we will use this campaign as a springboard to resuscitate our fight against endemic corruption, nepotism and abuse of state resources. The union will be driving this campaign together with a wide range of progressive organisations within the mass democratic movement and outside the movement.
