The Trade Union International – Public Service and Allied (TUI-PS&A) and the millions of workers from its affiliates across the world takes this opportunity to pledge its solidarity and support for the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) NATIONAL PUBLIC SERVICE STRIKE ACTION.
We fully support your struggle to defend collective bargaining, and full implementation of the PSCBC Collective Agreement 1 of 2018.
The struggle NEHAWU is waging in South Africa is a global struggle waged by millions of workers across the world against neoliberal attempts to undermine and reverse the hard won historical gains of workers. Everywhere in the capitalist world, workers standalone against the alliance of capital and the ruling political elites; the only hope of victory lies in worker unity and international working-class solidarity.
By undermining collective bargaining, violating workers’ rights, and allowing corruption to flourish unimpeded South Africa joins a long list of countries that view and treat working people with disdain; and undermine the interests of the working class as a whole.
The action NEHAWU and other public service unions have embarked on is an important contribution not only toward better working conditions and fair pay for public sector workers; but also in building an effective caring public service and a better world.
