NEHAWU Strongly Condemns The Military Strikes On The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] joins millions of peace-loving people and progressives across the world in strongly condemning the United States of America military strikes on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The United States government under the Donald Trump administration has been leading a relentless campaign to overthrow the constitutionally elected government through a coup d'état. For some time, the US has imposed an imperialist financial aggression on Venezuela and intensified it over time. For the US and the Trump administration, it is unacceptable that Venezuela possess the biggest world energy reserves and strategic geography, can exercise independent economic and foreign policy and act outside of its hegemonic control.
The latest military strikes form part of the broader plan by the United States of America to subvert and politically destabilize Venezuela and bring about regime change with the sole intent of controlling Venezuela’s immense mineral and energy wealth, and impose a puppet government in the country.
The military strikes violate the sovereignty of Venezuela and constitute a continuation of the US imperialist agenda in destabilising Latin America to serve its agenda. These military strikes against a democratically elected government serves as evidence about the hypocrisy of US government.
As NEHAWU, we call upon the United Nations and the Security Council to denounce this barbaric and military aggression by the United States and support Venezuela in its struggles for national sovereignty and self-determination.
Lastly, we fully pledge our unwavering solidarity with the people of Venezuela following this latest military aggression by the US on Venezuela.
