NEHAWU Calls on WOrkers To Support SACP 31st Joe Slovo Commemoration

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] calls on workers to attend and support the SACP 31st Joe Slovo Commemoration on the 06th of January in Heroes Acre in Avalon, Soweto.
The commemoration is held annually to pay homage to Comrade Joe Slovo, a revered and outstanding revolutionary of our struggle for liberation and Socialism. Comrade Slovo was an illuminative revolutionary, renowned thinker, strategist and tactician, selfless leader, who dedicated his life to the struggle to liberate our people.
The commemoration of Comrade Slovo occurs at a time when the class is confronted by difficult challenges. Principal among these is the complete failure of the capitalist system in responding to challenges facing the people in particular the working-class.
The working class in our country find itself at the receiving end of the brutality of capitalism. The neo-liberal austerity agenda is being heighted daily and this is evident with how the government and the private sector have embarked on a process of implementing austerity measures which amongst others include jobs cuts, retrenchments, privatisation, cutting social spending, wage freezes and others. This, therefore requires the South African Communist Party (SACP) to provide strategic and tactical leadership to help the working class to map the way out of this disconcerting socio-economic and political conjuncture.
The SACP’s role in this current epoch of our revolution is of critical importance, mostly as the working class desires a scientific analysis of the concrete situation that we are confronted with in order to be effective in pursuing our struggles.
Equally, the commemoration occurs when we are gearing ourselves for the 2026 Local Government Elections, and as such the Party must use the commemoration to provide a comprehensive grounding and demonstrate its strength for a massive elections campaign.
As NEHAWU, we are preparing ourselves to embark on a massive election campaign in the 2026 local government elections in support of the SACP, as a vanguard of the working class, including building a powerful socialist movement of the workers and poor and building a left popular front, amongst others.
Lastly, we reiterate our call for workers to attend and support the Joe Slovo Commemoration.
